Alternatives

A Dozer alternative for Mac menu bar icons

Dozer is a free, open-source app that hides menu bar icons behind a dot. Its last release was in 2020. If you came looking for a replacement, here’s how Coat Check compares.

Updated October 19, 2026

The short version

Dozer adds up to three small dots to your menu bar. Click one to hide or show the icons to its left. It’s free and open source under the MPL-2.0 license, but its last release was a 2020 pre-release, and it hasn’t said anything about macOS 26 or 27.

Coat Check is maintained and works differently: click the hanger to see every menu bar icon, including the ones the notch hides, and open any of them, including its own menu.

What works differently

  • Dozer hides; Coat Check reaches. Dozer clears space. Coat Check gets you to icons that are already out of sight, notch included.
  • Coat Check is actively maintained and tested on macOS 14 to 26.
  • Both are free and open source.

If you want an icon hider that’s still maintained, also look at Hidden Bar and Thaw.
